For many professionals, we don’t tend to think about being on the job hunt until we are in a position of having to do so. Proactive things like networking, interviewing techniques and being up-to-date about industry changes are not high on our to-do lists until we are faced with the reality of having to look for a new position.
In this edition of the Communicator, “On the job hunt,” we are looking at different strategies to be successful.
There are many highs and lows of being on the job hunt; it can be difficult to maintain focus and momentum over a long time. Satish Sarangarajan offers ways to keep perspective in his article, “On the job hunt: Figuring out the why.”
Sabrina Lavi shares how non-linear network connections can lead to new opportunities in “Finding value in your networks: Why it pays to know others.”
The late Kobe Bryant had a direct focus on areas of success; Andrew Gula explains how you can succeed in “Using Mamba mentality on the job hunt.”
Ángela Colón shares her personal experience and the differences between looking for work in Canada versus her country of origin, Colombia, in “Gaining professional experience: A newcomer’s perspective.”
Finally, Dena Gouweloos offers ways to make your interview experience more dynamic and engaging in “Top interview questions for YOU to ask (and what to avoid).”
For those of you who are not currently seeking employment, we hope you proactively put some of these suggestions and tips into practice. For those of you on the job hunt, we wish you success and if you are looking to engage with other professionals and expand your network, IABC/Toronto is always looking for volunteers!
