Member Spotlight: Marie-Lauren Gregoire, SCMP

Director of Communications and Stakeholder Relations for the Alliance of Healthier Communities

Whether giving voice to an organization or directing senior-level non-profit communications, Marie-Lauren Gregoire is a storyteller at heart.

For over 20 years, Marie-Lauren has helped non-profit organizations tell better stories that shift public perception, increase awareness and build authentic engagement on normally difficult, heavy topics, like child welfare. Now, she leads a communications team in advocacy and government relations for a network of community healthcare organizations across Ontario. “I love the wealth of knowledge our team has, and it allows me to do all of the different pieces,” said Marie-Lauren. “The diversity of my role is very refreshing.”

In a fortuitous opportunity to attend the 2014 IABC World Conference in Toronto and recommendations from mentors, Marie-Lauren decided to join IABC/Toronto. This led to the deliberation of whether to undergo a master’s degree or the GCCC communication professional certification. Ultimately, it just made sense. “I always felt ‘what am I missing?’” said Marie-Lauren. “With the skills and knowledge I had, the SCMP certification validated my experience and made me a prime candidate for jobs at an expert level. I don’t know if I would have reached where I am today without this professional designation behind my name.”

But for Marie-Lauren, at the heart of her career trajectory is finding what you are passionate about. In the abundantly diverse field of communications, don’t be afraid to let what you enjoy guide you in discovering new knowledge, education and experiences.

Marie-Lauren is a published author, holds an honours bachelor of arts from Western University, a bachelor of journalism from Ryerson University and is a certified Strategic Communication Management Professional.
