Certification/Accreditation

Certification programs

Professional certifications give you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise. They provide evidence of your outstanding abilities in the field of business communications.  They also engage you in a process of life-long learning that elevates your career and provides a structure for keeping your skills fresh.

The Communication Management Professional certification is aimed at the generalist/specialist level. It is designed around ISO (17024), an international standard for professional certifications.

The Strategic Communication Management Professional is designed for highly skilled business communicators practiced in providing strategic communications advice to an organization’s leadership.

Accredited Business Communicator (ABC)

IABC has accredited communicators since 1973 through a rigorous process including assessment of professional portfolios and a written and oral exam. As of April 2015, there are over 800 ABCs globally within IABC’s membership.

While IABC formally closed its Accreditation Program in 2013, the foundation that is now in place to move forward toward ISO certification for communication professionals is a lasting legacy that will continue to increase competencies in the industry for generations to come.
