Congratulations to Natalie Banaszak, the 2022 IABC/Toronto Student of the Year!
Natalie is a Public Relations student at Sheridan College, a volunteer with the IABC/Toronto Student Communicators Circle and a Public Relations Consultant for the Ontario Liberal Party Candidate for Burlington and President and Youth Minister for St Eugene’s Young Adults. She recently started her PR internship with PRAXIS Public Relations and in her spare time she hosts a podcast series called Campfire chats helping to make outdoor recreation accessible to all. Natalie will be recognized at our OVATION Awards event on June 16 with $500 and a Student of the Year plaque.
The IABC/Toronto Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year Award is named in honour of one of the founders of IABC, Bobbie Resnick, as a tribute to her many years of service as a volunteer and mentor. IABC/Toronto offers this award to students to help accelerate their careers and support the next generation of communications professionals.
IABC/Toronto’s Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year Award (SOTY)
Do you possess creativity, strong writing skills and passion in both your academic and volunteer projects? If so, we invite you to enter IABC/Toronto’s Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year Award. Each year, IABC/Toronto recognizes a student member who exhibits leadership and excellence in communications.
The IABC/Toronto Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year recipient will be honoured at the prestigious OVATION Awards Celebration in May, 2023. The recipient will have the opportunity to attend the event and say a few words when presented with the award.
The winner will receive:
- A complimentary ticket to the OVATION Awards
- A $500 cash prize
- A plaque recognizing them as the Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year
- Photo and story included on IABC/Toronto website and promoted on IABC/Toronto social media platforms
The award is open to IABC/Toronto Student Members only.

To enter, you must submit the following:
- A news release or article of no more than two pages on how you plan to make an impact on the practice of public relations/communications in the future. The article should highlight how you will use what you’ve learned in your communications career.
Your news release/article should:
- Two pages submitted electronically
- Use no smaller than 12 point font
- Have 1/2″ margins
- A resume outlining your paid and volunteer experience, including any IABC/Toronto volunteer experience

Judging
All entries will be judged by a panel consisting of at least two members of the IABC/Toronto Board. Entries will be judged on creativity, clarity, conciseness, total impact and most importantly, on how well they meet the stated objectives.

Bobbie Resnick started her communications career in 1957 in the United States and later moved to Canada. In the corporate world and as an independent consultant, she worked in a variety of communications specialties. She was also a teacher sharing her skills with clients, colleagues and students. Renaming the award in her honour is a tribute to her many years of service to IABC/Toronto as a volunteer and mentor.
