Adventures west of Toronto. You don’t want to miss these family-friendly gems!

If you’re like me, when you go away on vacation, you want to experience as much as possible during your limited time in a new area. The excitement of the unknown, the lure of the photos you have seen online, and the time away from work all combine to make the draw even greater to see the sights. If you’ve got a family, this can become a bit more complicated – trying to find something everyone will enjoy that doesn’t break the bank.

Niagara Falls

On the Destination Toronto website, they have broken down a lot of the options within a reasonable commute from The 6ix but the big must-see is definitely Niagara Falls. As one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, if it is not already on your bucket list, it should be. Destination Toronto lays out quite a few options for day trips to Niagara Falls from Toronto that allow you to take a self-guided trip to the area or join an organized tour. A personal favourite of mine is taking a boat cruise to get a spectacular view of the Falls on Niagara City Cruises. It is a 20-minute tour that is truly unforgettable. Once you’re done with your boat cruise, head over to the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory, home to over 2,000 butterflies, or take a tour of the area by helicopter.

Chudleigh’s Farm

Not too far from Toronto, you will find the town of Milton, Ontario. Milton is home to Chudleigh’s Farm, the perfect spot for a rural family-friendly outing where pies are made ‘from scratch’ and baked fresh at the farm. Regular concerts with tribute bands performing are held typically on Friday and Saturday nights with a 30-minute “Little Blossom Music Series” during the day once per week.

Movies under the stars

Grab a blanket and some friends at Mississauga’s biggest outdoor theatre! Movie nights begin at the end of May and continue throughout the summer, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 playing on Thursday, June 8th from 8-10 p.m. at Celebration Square in Mississauga. This is open to people of all ages and admission is free!

Whichever path you decide to take, family-friendly events can accommodate most budgets and can add even more excitement to your trip!
