Making Waves Through Volunteering: How the IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards Celebrate Community

IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards

This National Volunteer Week, IABC/Toronto celebrates the incredible impact volunteers make across our industry.

As Canada celebrates National Volunteer Week 2025 (April 27 to May 3), IABC/Toronto recognizes those who dedicate their time, passion, and energy to making a difference in their communities. The IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards 2025, taking place on Thursday, May 8, is a perfect example of how collective volunteerism, from communications professionals to judges, photographers, and more, brings the event to life and strengthens our professional community.

IABC/Toronto will host the 40th Annual OVATION Awards at the beautiful Hart House, University of Toronto, St. George Campus from 6:30 to 9 p.m.. More than just an awards ceremony, this milestone annual event brings together communicators from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) for an evening of recognition, networking, connection, and celebration.

This year’s ceremony will also include a special moment to honour the Volunteer of the Year – in addition to the  awards of Merit, Excellence, and Distinction celebrating one outstanding individual whose dedication has made a lasting impact.

Yasmine El Shafei (she/her), Vice President, Programs at IABC/Toronto, says: “It’s been inspiring to work alongside our volunteer judges, who dedicate hours of their time to carefully review OVATION Awards submissions against the Global Standard of the Communications Profession using the IABC Seven-Point Scale of Excellence. Their commitment ensures that every award truly represents the best in our profession.”

Irene Alifanova (she/her), Vice President, Volunteers & Mentorship at IABC/Toronto, said: “Our volunteers are the foundation of IABC/Toronto’s success. Their passion, energy, and teamwork reflect the very spirit we aim to celebrate through the OVATION Awards.”

Whether you’re an experienced professional or just starting your career, attending offers the chance to celebrate the strength and spirit of our communications community. Volunteers are at the heart of the OVATION Awards, making it one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Join us on Thursday, May 8, at Hart House, University of Toronto, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for the 40th Annual IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards. e part of an evening that celebrates communication excellence, fosters connection, and inspires greatness. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, finger foods, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, and access to a cash bar.
