Fall is in full swing with brisk, cool air, the changing colours of leaves, Halloween approaching and yes, pumpkin spice everything. And the October issue of The Buzz, the newsletter of IABC/Toronto’s Professional Independent Communicators, takes a look at some tricks and treats in the PIC world.
As we settle into the season, we take a moment to reflect on Orange Shirt Day, the power of stories and the responsibility to ensure voices are heard, not forgotten.
This time of year, you’re likely to see ghosts in Halloween displays. But for independents, any season can be ‘ghosting’ season, when prospective clients vanish without a trace. Priya Bates, Heather Redfearn and Phil Sach share with Brent Artemchuk the tricks they recommend to survive being ghosted by a prospect.
Can your proposal help you avoid being ghosted? Don’t miss this panel discussion on October 21 on how to design proposals that stand out and what to do if the proposal stalls or disappears.
In this issue, you can also check out which PIC members are speaking at the IABC Canada Conference happening October 28-30 in Ottawa. (If you’ll be there, don’t miss the haunted walking tour on the 30th!) It’s a treat to welcome our new member Richa Kochhnar. You’ll also find Catharine Heddle’s latest recommended reading in Book Nook, and more ghosting advice shared on our social media channels.
If you have any comments on this issue, questions or ideas for professional development topics, or wish to volunteer with PIC, reach out to me at toronto-sig@iabc.to. I’m always happy to hear from you.
