As Senior Coordinator of Public Relations, Karen takes a leadership role in the coordination of public relations for the organization to support DeafBlind Ontario Services’ strategic plans and objectives. DeafBlind Ontario Services is a not-for-profit organization that provides accessible residential and customized support services across the province. Their holistic approach to Intervenor Services empowers people with deafblindness to achieve their goals and dreams.
With a passion for connecting individuals from vulnerable populations with the services and supports they need to thrive, Karen has worked in various communication roles across the non-profit sector. After starting her career in advocacy, grassroots lobbying and event planning, she has taken her thirst for variety and applied it to communicating with different audiences through media, stakeholder relations and project management.
She currently serves as Chair for the National Deafblind Awareness Month Working Group.
Karen is an internationally certified Communication Management Professional (CMP). She has enthusiastically served as a volunteer with IABC in a number of roles, including as the Director for Sponsorships and Advertising for E-Lert, contributor for Communicator, and evaluator for Gold Quill, Silver Leaf and Ovation awards. Serving as a volunteer with IABC has energized Karen to scope new areas for professional growth and motivated her to engage in the certification process.
