Taking care of yourself is a big part of taking care of your business. Yet as the year winds down, you’ll often see a flurry of suggestions to “finish the year strong.” But that’s a “hustle culture” approach that goes against taking care.
As Dr. Caroline Leaf says, “The idea that we always need to ‘be doing’ and ‘achieving’ only creates cycles of anxiety. Rushing will not solve your problems. Rest will.”
In the December issue of The Buzz, IABC/Toronto’s Professional Independent Communicators (PIC) are taking care of ourselves and our businesses.
Dr. Nancy Ellen Miller points out that it takes work to say “no” to a pedal-to-the-metal philosophy without second-guessing yourself. Find out what Sophia Loren can teach us about saying “no.”
Three PIC members – Meline Beach, Valerie Chelangat and Phil Sach – answer three questions from Brent Artemchuk, giving a sense of how they balance clients, workloads and personal obligations.
PIC member Yasmine El Shafei, SCMP, reveals what she’d do if she wasn’t in communications, her favourite comms-related book and more in the Buzzy Bits video chat with Arlene Amitirigala.
We also welcome new member Matisse Hamel-Nelis and welcome back returning member Yvonne Catty, ABC.
