A recurring comment on my school report cards was “Rhea is talkative.” If only they could see me now, communicator and all!
It’s normal to want to be heard and show that we have something valuable to contribute. What I didn’t always appreciate then was when to stop talking and start listening (something my parents still remind me to do).
Listening is something I’m actively practicing as IABC/Toronto’s VP of Special Interest Groups. The October edition of The Buzz explores that same spirit of listening across our PIC community, with a view to learning and making for better leaders:
- Meet our PIC Personality, Natalia Smalyuk, and learn about how listening, collaboration and being proactive in crisis management have shaped her business.
- Explore Jaime Watt’s “Director’s Crisis Playbook” in Book Nook. Catharine Heddle reviews this handy reference for communicators who help organizations listen, learn and lead through challenging times.
- Be sure to sign up for our session on Oct. 20, where you’ll learn practical ideas you can put into your next coffee chat.
- Find out what we’ve learned about where to channel our social media efforts.
Our greatest strength lies in making room for someone else’s, and I hope you’ll join us in building a more connected, supportive future, one conversation at a time. If you’d like to connect or hear more about what’s coming up, reach me at toronto-sig@iabc.to.
