For over three years, Toronto-based communicator Amber Shortell has been the Communications Specialist at Canada-based Northland Power. Northland is a top ten player in global offshore wind, helping to transition the planet to clean and green energy. She first joined IABC in 2018 but only started to use her membership extensively when she rejoined in 2020 to connect with other professionals working in business communications and share the benefits of IABC membership with students as a volunteer.
Amber is well-educated, having graduated from the University of Toronto’s Master of Information program with a specialization in User Experience Design in 2018. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Certificate in Technical and Professional Communication from York University’s Glendon Campus and is currently pursuing the Project Management certificate at the University of Toronto. She has also studied at Ryerson University, taking courses through the Chang School in Information Systems Management and Public Relations.
In addition to her passion for communicating about renewable energy all over the world, Amber loves Canadian literature and music, Toronto’s comedy/craft beer/restaurant scene, and supporting local community. Connect with her to share your recent favourite reads or to learn about the social meetup group she is planning to start in Toronto post-Stage 3.
