Manager, Public and Media Relations, Elections Ontario
A corporate communicator with experience handling issues and providing counsel to executives, Mike Allison joins IABC Toronto after moving from Vancouver two years ago.
“I came to Toronto and got straight to work before realizing it would probably be a good idea to connect with fellow communications professionals in order to advance my knowledge of best practices and take advantage of networking opportunities,” said Mike.
Prior to moving to Toronto, Mike served as Manager, Corporate Communications at FortisBC, a natural gas and electricity utility. Mike and his team built relationships with media and developed communications plans to ensure issues were handled and the company’s reputation was promoted.
After the move, Mike worked as an Account Director at Edelman, where he provided corporate communications and crisis counsel to a variety of clients.
More recently, he accepted a position with Elections Ontario, an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Mike will lead the development and implementation of media and social media plans, programs and initiatives. He will also manage public and external stakeholder relations to support the organization’s strategic plan.
“At a recent IABC new member coffee, they mentioned that your membership is only as good as what you put into it, which is true for many things. So, my mission will be to say ‘yes’ to IABC opportunities whenever I can,” added Mike.
