Internal communications

By Felicia Empey, Editor in Chief for Communicator | f.empey@gmail.com

As we start the new year, many of us are setting out personal and professional resolutions for improvement. In the 2020 winter issue of the Communicator, we are looking at internal communications because sometimes the best and easiest steps for improvement are when we examine and consider how we do things internally before we tackle external challenges and obstacles.

Dena Gouweloos outlines company missteps and solutions along with takeaways that can be applied in our roles as communicators in “Internal communications lessons learned from brand failures.”

In “Using employee feedback to deliver effective meetings,” Angela Colon shares ways to gather employee feedback on meetings and why this simple and relatively cost-free action can add value in meaningful ways like employee engagement and commitment.

Vanessa Holding shares how an often overlooked component of communication, internal videos, can be effectively executed for big results in, “Best practices to make engaging internal videos.”

“Delivering the news inside and out: Why internal and external communicators are beneficial for all organizations,” by Sabrina Lavi is an excellent primer and reminder of how internal and external communications should work in tandem with each other.

Matthew Collis rounds off this issue with some practical takeaways in, “Tips to enhance your internal communications.” He gives a variety of scalable solutions to internal communications pitfalls or roadblocks you might experience.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to get off to the right start and set up your internal communications for success!
