Take a drive east to Prince Edward County for unforgettable small town charm (and wine)

Have you considered exploring the area east of Toronto on your own, or bringing along a special someone? There are so many incredible places to see and things to do just two hours away on the small island of Prince Edward County, located just south of Belleville. Whether you are taking a tour of the wineries of Prince Edward County, experiencing the allure of the small towns, or visiting Sandbanks Provincial Park, you can’t go wrong with a trip to this picturesque region of Ontario. When you take a trip throughout the island that is Prince Edward County, you will almost forget about the everyday stresses you’re leaving on the mainland.

Beaches

Prince Edward County is home to some of the most popular beaches in the region at Sandbanks Provincial Park. With three large sandy beaches and the world’s largest baymouth barrier dune formation, it is no wonder why people lose track of time while they spend an entire day here, relaxing, birdwatching, and exploring.

Wineries

Personally, this is one of my favourite things to do in Prince Edward County. With at least 41 wineries, there is something for every wine lover to enjoy. Each winery comes with its very own unique personality and traits, and delicious offerings like the pasta bar at The Old Third Vineyard, the incredible wood-fired pizza at Three Dog Winery, or the smoked in-house cured trout at the Norman Hardie Winery.

Small Town Charm

Like a scene right out of a Christmas movie, the small towns scattered throughout Prince Edward County are delightful. The largest town on the island, the town of Picton is just over 5000 people and is home to craft breweries, restaurants, shopping, and festivals. Next largest is the town of Wellington, with about 2500 people calling it “home” year-round. It is surrounded by the majority of the wineries in the area and is home to shops and restaurants.

If you decide to visit Prince Edward County, you are in for a day of small-town charm, picturesque scenery, and welcoming communities.
