Member Spotlight: Sarah Twomey, MCM, CFEI

Communications & Education Specialist at CEIRP; Financial Communicator

With a background in French, IT, and public relations, she navigates the complex world of finance with ease and expertise.

Starting her career in the financial industry, Sarah’s journey was anything but conventional. She seamlessly integrated her diverse skill set, from working as a teller at TD Bank to bilingual IT support at RBC Dominion, showcasing her adaptability and resourcefulness.

Realizing the power of communication in her various roles, Sarah pursued further education in public relations at Ryerson University. This decision proved to be a turning point, as she excelled in the program and discovered her passion for financial communication and literacy.

Her career trajectory led her to Desjardins Financial Securities, where she honed her skills in writing personal finance articles and crafting engaging social media content. Sarah’s commitment to financial literacy was further solidified through her Master of Communication Management at McMaster University, focusing her research on this vital topic. She found her vocation as a financial communicator with a specialization in financial literacy.

Currently serving as a financial communications and education specialist at the Canadian Entertainment Industry Retirement Plan, Sarah has found the perfect intersection of her skills and interests. She leverages her diverse background in French, IT, finance, and public relations to help union members in the plan to understand how to effectively save for a comfortable retirement.

Sarah’s journey illustrates that successful careers rarely follow a straight line. Sometimes, you have to zig and zag to find your niche. She also credits her IABC/Toronto membership with helping her gain invaluable experience and connections through volunteer opportunities and encourages everyone to get involved. In turn, Sarah’s contributions to IABC have brought fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the table, enriching the association’s vibrant community.

Sarah is currently volunteering as the Event Director, for the iconic OVATION Awards 2024, scheduled to be held on May 9 at Hart House, Toronto.

With her blend of expertise and unwavering determination, Sarah remains a beacon of excellence in the field of financial communication, leaving a lasting impact wherever she goes.
