A love of reading led Amie to study liberal arts in University and get her Masters in English Literature. She started her career with a book publisher, learning the skills of an editor and ghost writing a memoir with an expert team. She then took on editing magazines for various trades — a role that connected her with experts who fed her curiosity and opened up opportunities to travel to get insiders’ tours of remote factories. She found she had a talent for summing up complex information in plain language.
After working for eight years as an editor, she made the shift to communications in 2015. Amie is now a communications manager for RICS, a professional body that sets standards and regulates professionals who work in the built environment from city planners, builders of infrastructure and asset managers to facility managers.
“I get a lot of satisfaction knowing I’m sharing thought leadership to prepare our cities for issues like climate change, rapid urbanization and better managing our natural resources,” said Amie. “There’s more to my role than writing, so I appreciate being tapped into a network of communicators who can help me fill in gaps in my professional experience.”
Amie joined IABC for access to current best practices and a network of communicators. It’s important to stay current with communication trends and she sees this organization as providing the best way to do that.
