October 16 is International Pronouns Day.
We use pronouns to refer to people other than their names. Pronouns are either gender-specific (‘he’, ‘she’) or gender-neutral (‘they’, etc.). Click to learn more.
Respecting people’s pronouns is basic human dignity. It is the simplest way to create welcoming spaces for everyone. Here’s how to do it:
- Share your pronouns – in your email signature, your social media, etc. You’re letting people know how you like being addressed, while creating safety for others to share their pronouns.
- Ask (don’t assume) people their pronouns. Click to learn more.
- Respect people’s pronouns. Made a mistake? Correct yourself and move on!
IDEA of the month is a monthly segment sharing ways to enhance inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) through our work.
