About the position: The Communications Supervisor is a strategic and dynamic professional who oversees media relations and drives the organization’s communication initiatives to ensure effective internal and external engagement. This position reports directly to the Director of Communications and works closely with both the Internal Communications Manager and External Communications Manager. The Communications Supervisor is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that align with the organization’s goals and mission, ensuring consistency and clarity in all messaging.
In this role, the Communications Supervisor will lead proactive media outreach efforts, manage relationships with journalists and media outlets, and handle press inquiries, ensuring the organization’s public image is accurately portrayed. They will also play a key role in employee engagement by organizing internal staff activities and events that foster a strong organizational culture. They will support the CEO’s communications by drafting speeches, internal messages, and statements.
Additionally, this role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with external community partners to enhance collaboration and engagement in public health initiatives. The Communications Supervisor will also ensure consistent branding and messaging across various platforms, including digital media, newsletters, and reports, while actively seeking opportunities to innovate and improve communication channels and strategies within the organization.
Personal Qualities: This person must be highly skilled in communication, relationship building, coordination, and take initiative. This individual naturally takes a leadership role and can motivate a team of dedicated communications professional to reach for new heights.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or equivalent education.
- Experience: 6-8 years of experience in a similar communications or public relations role, preferably in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing communication strategies that achieve results.
- Strong media relations experience, with an ability to build relationships with journalists and handle media inquiries effectively.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community partners, to drive communications objectives.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in staff engagement initiatives.
- Senior-level experience in a communications role is an asset.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication strategies.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing or supervising a team is an asset.
Salary range: $99,135.40 to $116,006.80 annually. OMERS pension and a comprehensive Health and Dental benefits package.
