Dean Lobo (He/Him)
Dean Lobo is an award-winning communications leader with 12+ years of experience across radio, television production, print and digital journalism, strategic communications, and media studies facilitation. He is a queer settler based in Toronto, or Tkaronto, the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples.
Throughout his career leading communications for various media outlets, corporations, and non-profit organizations, Dean has effected meaningful change through business strategies informed by equitable, inclusive, and accessible best practices.
In his current role as Senior Communications Advisor at The 519 — a City of Toronto agency and Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQ+ multi-service organization — he leads communications strategy, executive communications, social media management, fundraising, community engagement, media relations, colleague engagement, and capacity building for initiatives that benefit Toronto’s 2SLGBTQ+ communities. He also teaches part-time in the Public Relations Graduate Certificate Program at Durham College.
Dean’s association with IABC began in 2023 when he presented at the IABC World Conference in Toronto. As a board member of IABC’s largest global chapter, Dean continues to take IABC/Toronto to new heights by supporting the chapter in fostering individual and collective capacities to create impact as communicators.
When not at work, Dean enjoys being in nature, singing, and finding ways to practice and embody rest and play.
