I’m sure by now you, like me, are a little tired of the phrase “the new normal.” But to deny what is happening in regards to COVID-19 and how it has changed the communications landscape would be foolish. It’s been a time of uncertainty and adaptation, and communications are becoming more central and critical to navigating all these changes.
I have participated in many webinars and events, including the IABC/Toronto 2020 OVATION Awards, which was a great mix of celebration and connecting with award winners, judges and volunteers in mini-breakout sessions. I also have been on the other side hosting a large-scale event, that in-person would have been over 550 attendees, but instead was migrated to Zoom. Microsoft Team video calls, virtual bingo games, and an increase of screen time are things I never thought would become so dominant in my working life.
But learning to adapt and create new ways of being is a good exercise, and sometimes it takes what was routine to come grinding to a halt to reflect and re-envision how we would like things to either start, stop or continue.
In this issue of the Communicator, we are looking at “Technology and trends” — specifically how communications professionals have adapted their practice amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sabrina Lavi shares her astute insights in “Communicating in the age of COVID: Technology and trends shaping our industry.”
In “Rethinking your corporate events during COVID-19,” Angela Colon explores finding the right medium for your message and audience.
Finally, Matthew Collis offers ways to “Boost your communications results with these 5 creative tools.”
I hope you are well and that this issue of the Communicator finds you in good health!
