Dictionary.com defines an “epic fail” as a “spectacularly embarrassing or humorous mistake, humiliating situation, etc., that is subject to ridicule and given a greatly exaggerated importance.”
From childhood, we are taught to see “failure” as something negative. When we “fail” at something, we tend to feel badly about our efforts, or even ourselves. And when we “fail,” others are quick to offer their sympathies, or apologies, with an, “I’m sorry.”
However, in the process of learning, we all “fail.” Through another lens, we can look at these “failures” as practicing on the long, maybe never ending, road to perfection.
On his path to obtaining 1,093 patents, Thomas Alva Edison said, “I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
At the last meeting of the Senior Communicators Circle, we proposed discussing career fails. So, let’s do it!
Join the conversation on Zoom to share your “failed” projects, epic or otherwise. Come prepared to shed light on:
1. The project
2. What went wrong
3. What you learned
A Zoom link will be sent to registrants a few days in advance of the event date.
The Senior Communicators Circle is open to IABC/Toronto members with 20+ years’ experience to network, share knowledge and discuss a topical communications issue in a relaxed format. It is a great opportunity to exchange ideas with comms professionals who share depth of expertise at the strategic level. Attendance is capped at 15 to encourage conversation.
